Matthew 9:32-34
As they were going away, behold, a demon-oppressed man who was mute was brought to [Jesus]. 33And when the demon had been cast out, the mute man spoke. And the crowds marveled, saying, “Never was anything like this seen in Israel.” 34But the Pharisees said, “He casts out demons by the prince of demons.”

Another healing, another wave of opposition. While there are those who praise Jesus and recognize the unique nature of his ministry and this healing, there are also the predictable and critical Pharisees. They have nothing good to say about Jesus’ work. They believe Jesus is casting out demons by the power of Satan, the “prince of demons.”
Their concerns are not without legitimate grounds. The prince of demons will seek to deceive at all costs – even in self-destructive ways. There are charlatans in the world who hawk their way into people’s hearts and lives, taking advantage of poor, weak, and vulnerable people.
The legitimate question of all healing and every miracle is, “Who gets the credit?”. On this issue the Pharisees were also right on target. They didn’t like the fact that people were drawn to Jesus; they thought him to be an impostor. They believed he was leading people away from God. That is the best construction on their criticism. An even more sinister motive would be their concern for their own place and influence in Israel.
Jesus, however, is no huckster. He is not here to take advantage of people, he is here to save people. His goal is to honor and glorify God in all things. His agenda is to open people’s eyes to the blessings of God’s kingdom. He is here to show the glory and goodness of God. Our response to his work says more about us than it does about him. In the mean time deaf men hear, a mute man speaks, and the Kingdom of God is at hand!
