The Pathway of Prayer
Here is the outline of my message on August 30, 2020. This is the first of my “Legacy” messages that I hope will give witness to God’s work through me at St. John. All glory to him!
The St. John Prayer Garden is An Invitation to Pray
We Enter in Praise
Ps 100:4
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
Confessing our Sins
1 John 1:8-9
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Calling upon God for Help
Psalm 50:15
Call upon me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.”
Trading Anxiety for Prayerfulness
Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Believing Jesus’ Promises
Matthew 7:7-8
Jesus says “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”
Refreshed by Jesus’ Living Water
John 4:13-14
Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Remembering our Baptism
Marked by Grace, Faith, and Good Works
Ephesians 2:8-10
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Blessed by God
Numbers 6:24-26
The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
I’ve spent many, many hours in the beautiful place praying, reading, anguishing, listening, learning, writing, crying and crying-out, rejoicing, worshiping and healing. I have even thought that one day I might sit below the fountain and let the waters flow over me as those of re-birth in baptism, but I never realized that the intersecting pathways created the cross until seeing this aerial view. What a special, special place this prayer garden is for me. Now, this walk can be taken virtually as well. Thank you for this. God’s blessings!
