Psalm 65:8 (NIV)
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.
The jailer and his entire household rejoiced that he had become a believer in God.
Your team wins the Super Bowl. Your company lands the contract. Your house sells at above the listing price. You get a promotion. Your daughter receives a National Merit Scholarship to the school of her choice. All these are cause for celebration. Gather the family. Break out the fine bottle of wine. Prepare the special meal. Good news is worth celebrating!
The Good News of God is centered in Jesus Christ, changes people’s lives, and calls for songs of joy. For many of us, however, the Good News has become old hat. Just like the ruins in Philippi, our eager happiness in Jesus’ salvation can be abandoned, forgotten, or ignored. And while not every day is as noteworthy as the first day of our conversion, the wonders of God fill the earth daily. From morning to dawn God’s goodness, love and salvation are played out around us.
As I navigate the day today, I hope to do so with a sense of joy in God’s salvation, a sense of awe at his manifold wonders, and a thankful heart in light of his work in people’s lives. God is good. His works and wonders are all around us. People’s lives are being changed by his grace. May his name be praised!
