Light from the Word and through the lens

John 20:30-31

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Fascination is never enough; that’s not Christ’s call. He doesn’t call us merely to be fascinated with his teaching or life, but to faith and life in his name. There are those who are fascinated by Jesus’ teaching, signs, wonders, miracles, and promises. Well and good, but fascination isn’t faith, and being enamored of Jesus is not life in his hame.

To engage our hearts with the grace and truth of Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of God is the substance of faith. That is a gift of the Holy Spirit. Living in his name is the abundant life that Jesus came to give. Fascination isn’t bad per se, it just isn’t enough. We can be passively fascinated with many things – including Jesus – without being engaged in who he is and his will for our lives.

Are you fascinated by Jesus, or living life in his name?
