Isaiah 40:30-31
Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
31but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.

We wait – all of us. We may not know it, but we wait. There will come a Day when all that we see melts away to reveal a higher and more eternal reality. And we who wait for, hope in and trust God will rejoice at the appearing of Christ. We will be eternally alive and well and swift and running.
Until that Day we wait. Many people wait for Christmas, or for the economy to turn around, or for a loved one to come home, or for a job offer. When those come – and when we are glad – we are experiencing only a faint ripple of the tide of joy and gladness we who wait, hope and trust in the Lord will experience.
Our family is waiting the end of a 5 year battle against cancer. We wait for the dying to end. One Day we will rejoice before the throne of the Lamb of God in the eternal life that is now ours but not yet fully experienced. Until then we wait. Confidently. Hopefully. Trustingly.
