Matthew 1:23
“The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”—which means, “God with us.”
Sometimes the obvious bears repeating: God is with us. The testimony of a church steeple pointing toward the heavens is a reminder of the obvious: “Look up, and remember God’s presence and our need to honor Him.”
What reminders do you pass by, without giving thought to God, and His presence, and our need to honor Him? Many people missed the greatest reminder of all: God in the flesh in the person of Jesus, born of a virgin, raised by a carpenter. Of course He went on to call and teach his disciples, confront the religious leaders of His day, offer His life as a sacrifice for the sins of the world and be raised again three days later. Even now He is seated at God’s right hand, over all, and yet interceeding for His people.
Still today, 2000 years later, men and women raise steeples to His honor, and seek to remind others of God’s redemptive presence in the world. Will you see those signs today?
