Ephesians 2:4-7 (NIV)
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions–it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

I love Ephesians, and the message of God’s grace that is highlighted there. I believe Ephesians 1:6 is the key to the meaning of the universe (that’s something I do better at believing than I do at explaining). This morning I received a new insight on Ephesians 2:7. The expression of God’s grace is not limited to this sinful world or even to our need for His undeserved kindness. So often we associate God’s grace with forgiveness and His undeserved love for those times that we particularly need it. We attach grace too much and too exclusively to our need, short-coming, and sin. While God’s grace is especially important to those things, frankly our experience of God’s grace, according to 2:7 is yet to be fully realized; it goes on through eternity “in the coming ages.” God’s grace is expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. But it is something to be experienced and seen most fully in the coming ages.

Today I am thankful for God’s grace; I desperately need it! But in the eternal tomorrow and the heavenly realms with Christ, I will see my need for His grace even more fully, and experience that grace more freely. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

Thanks Linda. It’s a bit selfish, really; I’m in a pretty dry place right now and this allows me to be a bit more expressive.
