“Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright” (Psalm 33:1). True for many reasons – especially because of His faithfulness and grace.
The upright recognize the goodness and faithfulness of God and are delighted to praise Him. They are not caught in the web of deceit and ungodliness that the unrepentant frequent. All ungodliness is a product of Satan’s deceit; only his deceptions can make us desire anything other than the goodness of God.
But notice, also, that I didn’t say “sinners frequent” ungodliness and deceit. We all sin; and whenever we give into temptation, or fall into any kind of sin, we are in the web of ungodliness and deceit. Repentant sinners, however, are not caught there by definition: they have repented of their sins. They have recognized the folly of Satan’s ploys. And they realize that the ways of God are good and pure and living. For that, they praise God.
Praise befits the upright: they know the goodness, faithfulness and grace of God. They live in repentant faith; at least this upright person does. I don’t know any other way to live under Christ, nor do I want to.
