Grace and Peace Multiplied
Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:
2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. – 2 Peter 1:1-2
Note well this opening greeting of Peter to the people to whom he writes. This is one of the so-called general epistles; letters written to no particular church, group, or person, but to a general audience – a broad range of people with no particular status or special consideration.
Peter, however, makes a bold statement: they have obtained a faith of equal standing as his. They are at the foot of the cross. The ground is level there. Our faith gives us equal standing before God because of the One in whom we believe.
There are prayer warriors, who lay siege to the throne of God’s grace, but the difference between them and any ordinary Christian is not a special privileged standing before God. Their willingness to go to the mat with God, seeking his favor with a clear awareness of their need combine to make them strong before God. There are those who are able to express their prayer thoughts in a more articulate manner. But God does not turn anyone aside who comes to him through Jesus Christ.
Some people look to me to pray for them – which I am happy and honored to do. But I have no more pull than any other person who seeks God’s favor for the sake of Jesus. His grace and peace are multiplied whenever anyone turns to him in faith.

Some people look to others for prayer because they KNOW the other(s) WILL, indeed pray. What a treasure to know those who will “go to the mat with God” on your behalf! This is a true and deep blessing!
