Ezekiel 11:19–20
I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh, so that they may follow my statutes and keep my ordinances and obey them.
2 Corinthians 5:17
If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!

I’ve seen it happen a few times in dramatic and powerful ways. More often, however, it happens quietly and with little obvious outward fanfare. But make no mistake, obvious or subtle, when a person’s heart is changed from stoney to new wonderful things happen.
God’s faithfulness and goodness is displayed in such transformations. This is not evidence of the goodness of man; how can a stone become flesh? How can a dead man revive himself? This is evidence of the work of God in our hearts. As such it is evidence of God’s faithfulness to keep his promises, such as those given through the prophet Ezekiel. It is evidence of God’s grace in that he reaches into hearts of sinners. We who are sinful, guilty, responsible and lost are found by God and made New, righteous, and redeemed.
When a person is made new it is also evidence for hope in all of life. Do you have a friend who is making a mess of his life? There is hope. Is there a relationship in your family that is broken and dysfunctional? God changes hearts and reconciles families. Is there a deep disappointment in your soul? God pours the balm of Gilead into broken hearts.
Sometimes these Great Reversals are subtle and hidden. But whenever they happen praise goes to God; Jesus is glorified; the Spirit rejoices. I’m looking for that today. I hope you are too!
