Light from the Word and through the lens

John 1:9-12

The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

I’d like to think that everyone who heard the actual message of Jesus would believe it, embrace him in repentance and faith and rejoice in the gift of God. Sadly, that’s not the case. People may well know Jesus – who he really is and what he actually has done for us, yet disbelieve. Sometimes I am challenged in regard to my personal faith: is all this really true?

But those times are thankfully few and far between. When I do have those moments they are much more about some of the theological realities and fundamental realities of existence and reality itself. But when I consider the Gospel message, and the incredible joy that so many have embraced with the birth of Jesus, I am compelled to that same joy.

This video of the Air Force Concert Band at the Smithsonian Museum is a wonderful testimony to the joy of the Christmas season. Jesus is the joy of Man’s desiring. When he is present as the fullest and most complete embodiment of grace and truth, there is joy.
