Luke 2:15-20
When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. 17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. 18 And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

It’s worth watching – in my humble opinion. Truth is, we miss much of the significance of the Good News of Christmas because we’re so rushed. We don’t take time to ponder because we don’t have time to pause. So the notes of the Christmas Good News run all together. They might be a nice scale. But we miss the deeper impact of the message.
What if you were to ponder the shepherds actions: watching, seeing, fearing, saying, going, seeing, telling, glorifying and praising. There’s a story in there sure enough! Consider the angels: suddenly appearing, embraced by God’s glory, calming fears, speaking good news, praising God, announcing his birth. Then there is Caesar: commanding the tax, completely unaware of his part in God’s plan, passing off and paying no attention to the events in Judea and Bethlehem.
Then there is a baby. Born of a virgin. Laying in a manger. Son of the most high. Heir to the throne of his father David. Great. Reigning over the house of Jacob forever. His kingdom will have no end.
I am going to spend some time pondering this just now. How about you?
