Psalm 19:1-6
The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose voice is not heard.
4 Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,
5 which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,
and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them,
and there is nothing hidden from its heat.
We were traveling through northern Arizona on a family vacation. It was late at night when we needed to change drivers. Aaron had been driving and as soon as he got out to let someone else take the wheel he yelled, “Everyone out of the van! Everyone out of the van!” What was the trouble? Nothing. He wanted us all to see the starry sky. In the thin cool air, far from the city lights the Milky Way was outstandingly, spectacularly beautiful!
It was saying to us, “God is glorious! He made this and this is the very tip of his creative power. Glory to God!” Next time you see a sunset or a beautiful night sky recall these words. Witness to God’s glory and majesty is his creation. We are given daily reminders of that in the beauty of creation.
Even more glorious is God’s revelation through Jesus of his perfect grace and truth. Through Christ we may enjoy the beauty of God’s creative power and his eternal glory.
