Hebrews 2:14-18
Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. 16 For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. 17 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

God doesn’t help angels. Somehow I had not thought of that before. But it’s right there in verse 16. God helps people; he helps those who are of flesh and blood, who suffer death, who face temptation. Some say, “God helps those who help themselves. That is not, however, what the Bible ever says. God helps people: those who need a savior.
He did that through his Son, taking on human flesh, partaking in every aspect of our humanity. He did that to deliver us from slavery to fear and death. He did that as our merciful high priest. He did that by atoning for our sins – paying the penalty and setting aside God’s wrath.
God still helps us; it’s not a one time, back then thing. God helps us when we are faced with temptation. He helps us as one who knows what it is to experience the desire for wisdom, the allurement of forbidden things that look good to the eye, and the desire to discern for ourselves what is good and what is evil. He helps us by giving us his word, by reminding us of his example, and by sending angels to watch over us.
Do you need help? You probably do – even more than you know. Jesus is at hand to help you.
