Isaiah 57:15
For this is what the high and exalted One says— he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.
This was one of Pastor Jim Wells’ favorite Bible verses and he embodied it. Today I will offer a message at my brother Jim’s funeral service at Holy Cross. As I share the Good News of God’s love in Jesus today, I am humbled and thankful for the opportunity.
I remember with thanks Pastor Jim Wells and his kind, gentle spirit. He embodied “The Blessing” to me and many others. His work with the Residential Care Ministry, and his genuine compassion were trademarks of his Christian faith. His words of encouragement, his delight in God’s word, and his vulnerable spirit endeared him to many.
I remember with greatest thankfulness, however, the goodness, grace, kindness, love, and faithfulness of our Lord Jesus Christ. He give himself for us all that our sins might be forgiven and in his resurrection from the dead delivered us to the promise and hope of eternal life.
Today we celebrate God’s blessings to and through Pastor Jim Wells. As we celebrate his life and remember the signs of his faith, we also pray for God’s comfort for his wife and family. We love you all and have you in our hearts!
I am also thankful for Pastor Bill Lowery’s faithful ministry to the people of Holy Cross – especially his pastoral presence with those who are suffering and dying. I remember his special care for our son and late wife during their sojourn through the dark halls of the battle against cancer. I remember his uplifting and encouraging words at Nici’s funeral. Thanks, brother Bill!
