Hebrews 1 (ESV)
1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last dayshe has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,4 having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.

Maybe you’ve heard the spiel: This is the best (insert consumer item here, i.e., bread, beer, car, bed…). If you want the very best call this number, go to that website, they’ll finance zero interest; the list goes on. Whenever I hear someone telling me that something is the best I am skeptical. It may be good, but the best? I’m not so sure.
But the writer to the Hebrews says that Jesus is the premier manifestation of God, the perfect expression of his will and being. He is so because he is the final word of God, the creator of the world with God, the expression of the glory of God, the perfect expression of God’s nature, the One who upholds all of creation, the perfect high priest, and the One who reigns at the right hand of God, superior even to angels. That is quite a list!
We were made in God’s image. When God made man – male and female – he made them in his image. He put his handprint on his creature, the crown of his creation. Jesus is the perfect handprint of God: without sin or fault of any kind. He is the perfect man. He is also God. There is none like him. We need look nowhere else to find our true hope, life, and transcendent meaning.
