1 Thessalonians 5:18
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

I love the story of Corrie and Betsie Ten Boom’s encounter with this Bible passage. They were in prison suffering terribly because of the Nazi and SS cruelty. Somehow, however, they had been able to smuggle a Bible into the prison. But when they read this passage Betsie insisted that they apply it literally to everything they were experiencing, in this case, even for the fleas that had infested their barracks and the crowded conditions they were subjected to.
When Betsie insisted that they thank God for the fleas, her sister, Corrie gave in reluctantly. But she said that in her heart she knew Betsie was wrong in this case. Later, however, they discovered that the guards in the prison had left them alone in their barracks because of the fleas! As a result they had more freedom to share the gospel with others, to pray, have devotions, and even build friendships.
Today I have so much to be thankful for. I don’t live among fleas. We will be with family and enjoy a great feast. There are so many blessings I could name that it’s almost embarrassing! For all this I give thanks to God.
Most of all I give thanks to God “for he is good, and his mercy endures forever, his faithfulness to all generations.” (Psalm 100:5)
1 Thessalonians 5:16-24
16 Rejoice always,17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20Do not despise prophecies, 21but test everything; hold fast what is good. 22Abstain from every form of evil.
23Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful;he will surely do it.
