Psalm 136:1

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever.

Take a look at Psalm 136 and you will find a refrain that repeats throughout the whole Psalm: “His steadfast love endures forever.” The psalmist recounts the various deeds of God’s deliverance, and after each mention adds the refrain. The One who alone is God: “His steadfast love endures forever!” The God who made the heavens: “His steadfast love endures forever!” He struck down Israel’s enemies: “His steadfast love endures forever!” He remembered his people in their time of need: “His steadfast love endures forever!” He who gives food to all flesh: “His steadfast love endures forever!” The God of heaven: “His steadfast love endures forever!”

Do you get it? Whatever we may experience in life, God’s steadfast love endures. It is the constant refrain of the life of faith. Where do you see God’s hand of mercy, love, and faithfulness? Where do you yearn for his help? Where are you struggling to find your way? No matter what we may face: “His steadfast love endures forever!” That’s a good thought for today – and every day: God’s steadfast love in Jesus endures forever! Give thanks and praise, honor, glory to him. Worship him!
