When I was much younger, I worked in a local super market. It bore little resemblance to anything that today we would call “super”. There were three check-out lanes (none of them express). The cash register was operated by punching the dollars and cents in rows and columns. A bell rang when the total was finalized and the drawer opened. Sparky, or Ruby, and sometimes Ron were the checkers. I was the bag boy and sometimes I worked in the produce department.

Psalm 118:24
This is the day that the LORD has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.
One day I was working in the produce department at Shopper’s Big Star. Mr. Hoepel was manager of that department. He had a wonderful attitude and a kind and gentle spirit. I was telling him that I couldn’t wait until I turned 16. He simply said, “Don’t wish your life away.”
Well said. Today is the day God has given us. Today is the day to celebrate. Today is the day to rejoice and be glad in the love, grace, truth, faithfulness, and blessing of God.
I’m at the 64th regular convention of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod today. It will certainly not be the most exciting day of my life (church conventions are not particularly exciting, even though they are important and necessary). But it is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it. How about you?
