Matthew 6:26-27
Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?

Jesus says three important things in these two verses:
- Birds don’t store up food but the Father in heaven feeds them.
- We are of more value than the birds.
- We have little control over our life’s days.
While it isn’t particularly profound on my part to point this out, there is an important truth that lies behind these three thoughts: We are to take note of life as it is – the good and bad – and then factor God into every aspect of life. If God is involved in birds’ lives, feeding and providing for their well-being, he is surely involved in the grave and mundane aspects of our lives. God is not a part of life that we visit occasionally; he is in all of life. And while we have control over little of life’s paths, God is well aware of our comings and goings; he is there to provide for us. We don’t know how long our life’s path will be, or with whom or what it will intersect. But God is the constant good companion.
We do well to pay attention to reality. We do well to remember that the whole universe testifies to God’s glory. We do well to deal with reality. But we do well when we recognize, through Jesus, a deep reservoir of grace, kindness, and love from which God draws for our earthly and eternal good.
