Light from the Word and through the lens

Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. Luke 2:25 (ESV)

Waiting – usually thought of in terms of ticks of the clock, is better thought of as looking forward to God's blessing. (Stock Photo – not by DLB)

We are an impatient lot! We want it all and we want it now. I know of what I speak; I am one of the “we” I speak of. It’s so difficult to put off the good in anticipation for the better. It’s so easy to give in to the momentary opportunities and miss a greater blessing that God would give in the long-term.
It’s also a common practice to over-estimate what we can do in the short term and under-estimate what God can do in the long term.
Today, Simeon is an example for all of us: we can look forward to a perfect consolation of God by the power of the Holy Spirit.
