Hebrews 11:8-10
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. 10For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.

Faith is an adventure because faith calls us to move forward, cast off the lines and go! Abraham is an example of one who took God’s call to go and lived a remarkable adventure of faith. Jonah is an example of one who did everything he could to go the other way and experienced a different sort of adventure. We know that Jonah’s response was not one of faith. And we admire Abraham as the Father of Faith. But too often we make faith a reflexive and inactive thing.
Faith is not just believing in Jesus and being saved. Faith is a deep connection with Jesus and God’s promises in Him. It calls us forward and moves us to serve and go and do. By faith alone we are justified. By faith alone we are saved. But faith is never alone. Faith causes us to listen to God’s word and go where He calls us to go. By faith Abraham moved out and followed God.
We need not necessarily move to a new country or even new city because of faith. But we will move. We will be moved to thank God for all His gifts by our faith. We will be moved to pray in times of need by faith. We will be moved to help a neighbor in need by faith. We will be moved to give our offerings by faith. We will be moved in some way by our faith.
Where is God calling you today? By faith follow him and discover the adventure and blessing He has in store for you. You’ll discover Jesus’ presence, forgiveness, and the fullness of His gift of abundant eternal life as you go in faith.
