2 Corinthians 9:11
You will be enriched in every way for all your generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.
It’s one thing to thank God; each of us must do so. In fact one indictment against the ungodly that is made in Romans 1 is that they refused to thank God (see Romans 1:21). Thanksgiving should, in fact, be a hallmark of the Christian’s attitude.
But an even higher and more profound calling is to be a thanks-producer. When our acts of generosity, love and kindness touch others’ hearts to the point that they give thanks to God, we honor God; we fulfill a greater purpose. For it is one thing to have much and be thankful. It is even more to give much and do so in a way that causes others to give thanks to God.
God enriches us in many ways so that we may be generous. Our generosity is a reflection of our understanding of God’s generosity to us.
Prayer: Gracious and generous Lord God, thank you for all the gifts you have given me, and for enriching me through the generosity you inspire in me. Give me more opportunities to experience the joy of seeing others praise you because of your provision and kindness through me; in Jesus’ name. Amen.
