Light from the Word and through the lens

How do you honor God? Are you faithful in worship? Do you use His name to pray, praise, and give thanks? Are you committed to following Him in good times and bad? Do you care about the things He cares about and seek to sustain and support those causes that advance His cause in the world? Do you give of your time, talents and treasures? Do you resist temptation and seek to obey His commandments?

All these things are good ways to honor God; they are worthy pursuits and vital to the advancement of God’s kingdom in the world. Having said all that, however, the greatest honor we can give to God is to believe His promises, trust in His mercy and grace, and receive His gift of abundant eternal life.

In no way is this to undermine the ways in which we act intentionally to honor God. But truthfully, in the end, the greatest honor of God, and his greatest glory is in his grace in Jesus Christ. This is the thought expressed in Ephesians 1:5-6

In love 5he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves [emphasis added].

God’s greatest glory is in Jesus Christ and the salvation He won for us by His death and resurrection. We honor God most when we take that most seriously. We add to that honor when we pray to Him, keep His commandments, and seek to advance His kingdom in this world.

More than anything else the world needs people who will honor God in all things – in good times and bad; and who remember His greatest glory in in the victory of salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ.
