In the middle of the night, a bright light is harsh and painful; a night light will do quite well if you have to get up. But during the light of day we see more and better. We don’t read by night light. We don’t work in the dark. We turn on the light so we can see, function, and flourish. The same light that would hurt our eyes during the night becomes a welcome illumination for the day’s activities.

When Isaiah calls God’s people to walk in the light of the Lord, he invites us to a place that may initially seem harsh and painful. But that place is a place of true light:
- We’re able to see what is truly important
- We’re able to see what God has done for us
- We’re able to see the dangers that lurk in the darkness of sin and rebellion
- We’re able to see the right path to take on an every day basis.
“Come now, let us walk in the light of the Lord!”
