It has taken nearly 8 years, but slowly and surely the rubble of the World Trade Center Twin Towers in New York City has given way to new construction. Now above ground there is promise of a new and beautiful building complex that will stand in place of the Twin Towers. Terror may strike. Buildings (and kingdoms) may fall. But these will be rebuilt.
Sadly some will think only of the rebuilding of the twin towers, and think of the triumph of the human spirit, and of the power and resiliency of the United States of America. While I am thankful for both, even these new towers will one day fall; it is inevitable. But a life built on God’s word and the truth centered in Jesus’ death and resurrection will never fail.
Jesus’ resurrection is the greatest victory and triumph of good over evil ever. That truth stands behind any worldly come-back. That hope for the ultimate victory stands as a signal of hope for all who face their own 9/11. Resurrection comes after death. The darkest hour will give way to new birth and renewed hope in Christ. That’s what I’m holding onto today.
