When Jesus came to his disciples on the first Easter, his greeting was, “Peace be with you.” That was just what the apostles needed: assurance, comfort and peace. What do we need today? When we come for worship on Easter we are seldom fearful or discouraged. Too often we’re going through the motions, coopted by the world’s agenda, or consumed with our own personal problems. What message do we need if that’s the case? Perhaps we need peace, encouragement, and a reminder: Jesus is Lord. Angels worship Him. All people will give an account to Him. He was, is, and is to come.
Jesus is my Lord; my Redeemer, Savior, Friend and King. Is my life balanced in all aspects of my relationship to Him? Does Jesus need to bring me peace or turmoil? While we might always think we need his greeting of peace, it may be that we need his gracious turmoil in order to find a truer place of relationship with Him and with others.
